Suicidal Trombones

December 21, 2008 at 9:01 pm (odds) (, , , , , )

Seeing as I’ve been having a few ‘whats odd on youtube’ posts, here’s another fun one.

Suicidal Trombones (their title, not mine) – see clip 1 and clip 2. Some pretty smart moves, although the trombones are just props – they don’t look like they are playing them … although I can probably think of one or two trombonists that I’ve known who probably could play and do this at the same time … mind you, occaisionally, this might happen.

And just in case you think there is something odd about trombone players, these tuba and trumpet players could set the record straight.

The London Symphony Orchestra and Michael Tilson Thomas are looking to produce the first ever online collaborate orchestra via YouTube. Auditions are on now, download the piece, submit a video of you playing, and they will be choosing which to link up. It all finishes in a performance in Carnegie Hall in April next year.

Invisible Drum Kit …

December 6, 2008 at 2:37 pm (music, odds) (, , , , , )

I came across this great Rowan Atkinson clip today – he is sweeping up on stage, and by accident, comes across an invisible drum kit. The typical Rowan Atkinson timing is given a new challenge as he manages to coordinate his invisible playing with the sounds of the kit.

I’d not seen this before, but its a fantastic sketch, with the usual comedy twists as it unfolds. See it here on YouTube.

Great fun to watch.
