Modern Day Fossils

July 26, 2009 at 7:48 pm (art, interesting) (, , , , , , )

This is an interesting idea, from artist Christopher Locke – create a false fossil, but using items of (fairly) modern technology – see the website here.  They look really good!  See this picture of the ‘fossil’ of a PlayStation games controller for an example.  I also liked the walkman and rotary (bakalite) telephone.

For an interesting twist, the artist has added latinesque descriptions to them too (I’m now off to see if Google can translate from Latin), for example:

Ludustatarium temperosony- Commonly referred to as (“Playstation controller” or “Dual Shock”)

Well, made me smile anyway (as did one of the sites that featured this chaps work – sexyarchaeology.org – the official movement to bring ‘sexy’ back to archaeology apparently – see their facebook group here).
